The Process – A Journey From Idea To Execution
The inspiration behind the Evolution show came from a desire to merge the awe-inspiring story of life on Earth and develop that into a visual spectacle with our drones; something that had never been done before.
The concept grew from our ambition to push the boundaries of drone storytelling, blending art and science in a way that would captivate audiences on an epic scale.
Evolution was born from the fascination with our planet’s history from its transformations to its key milestones which shaped the world we know today.
With all of our drone shows, we aim to take audiences on a journey from the beginning and with the idea of evolution we have managed to tell the longest story of all time, in just over 20 minutes.
What sets Evolution apart from other drone shows is its sheer scale and depth of storytelling, from towering 50-foot humans to massive dinosaurs formed from a swarm of drones.
Originally starting out as a mere thought, the idea of our evolution show has gone from a simple idea to innovative entertainment that is touring across the UK.
1. The Spark: Ideation
Our ideation process is all about collaboration and creativity, allowing the display to tell a story from start to finish. We work closely with clients to craft a bespoke, one-of-a-kind show that captivates audiences and leaves a lasting impact.
When it comes to our own shows, we follow a similar ideation process. We want every drone show to leave a positive impression in people’s memories and the best way to do this is through storytelling. The process starts with the creation of a simple script.
For Evolution, the vision was to create an epic visual journey, starting from the Big Bang and exploring evolution from single-cell organisms to towering dinosaurs and modern humans.
Once we had these ideas it was time to then start the creative process.
2. The Art of Creation: Creative Process
Once we had the idea in place, it was time to carefully dissect and understand the different storytelling aspects. In all of our shows, we aim to captivate whilst also emphasising the message of the show. From the written script, a storyboard is created.
The storytelling aspects of Evolution were led by the Creative Director who brainstormed, designed, tested and refined each element to ensure we could craft a visually compelling experience that led the audience on a journey from the Big Bang to highlighting pivotal moments in the history of life on Earth.
3. Drone Show Animation
Once the storyboard is approved, the process begins to transform the 2D imagery into a 3D masterpiece, complete with captivating transformations in between each scene.
4. Operations & Deployment
The process then begins with extensive testing and setup of the drones, ensuring every detail is meticulously arranged. Once the approved animation is finalised, it is handed over to the Flight Operations team, who upload it into the system.
From there, the drones are deployed and tested at Celestial’s flight base, ensuring flawless synchronisation and performance before taking to the night sky. This careful orchestration allows Evolution to produce an unforgettable experience that captivates and enchants audiences.
5. The Grand Finale: Show Time
After months of preparation, the Evolution drone show is finally ready to tour across the UK. Similar to all our other drone shows, the excitement of show time is palpable.
It’s a culmination of all the hard work and dedication from a simple idea to hundreds of drones dancing around the night sky to create a stunning visual display that tells a powerful story.
