Celestial were commissioned to deliver a majestic drone display as a gift to London as part of the first in-person New Year’s Eve celebrations since the Covid pandemic began in 2019.

January 2023 / London, UK / For Greater London Authority

The drone display was kept a secret up to the very last minute, when hundreds of drones, each measuring 60cm and weighing 1.2kg, took to the skies to choreograph images of the Earth’s Globe, the Late Queen and King Charles, lifting off the Horse Guards Parade.

Along the River Thames’ banks, 100,000 people gathered to watch this landmark event, which shared a message from His Majesty about the need to protect the future of our world and paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II, before Celestial drones spelt out a positive message welcoming in “2023 with love from London” as fireworks exploded behind them.

With only a few months to pull off this spectacular, Celestial achieved a stunning 12-minute drone display that dazzled the audience within strict CAA rules and without encroaching on the Prime Minister’s back garden.

For a high impact New Year’s Eve display, drones really do lead the way, especially when accompanied by an amazing soundtrack and light show. The storytelling capability of drones will always create those

‘instagram-able’ moments that will be shared
around the world.
