For a second year running, Celestial were selected by the UK Government Department for Business and Trade to represent UK creative tech at the renowned South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas.
UK House showcases the very best of British innovation and industry, and Celestial, we were thrilled to head back to the States to take part. As one of 23 companies on the trade mission, it was a thrilling atmosphere to be immersed in the networking, pitching, and collaborating that took place
The energy was electric, and being surrounded by like-minded companies all pushing into the future, every roundtable sparked dynamic conversations and new insights from pioneers across AI to immersive experiences.
It was a pleasure to share UK House with companies such as Anagram, Draw & Code, Trickshot, GEEIQ, and many more – all industry innovators levelling up the tech and creative space.
Our founder, John Hopkins, took to the stage to speak about creativity and storytelling, and how important it is that each show we craft unites people with a sense of wonder and awe. Together with Mat Whittington from C3 Presents (our artist management partners in the US), the panel was an illuminating discussion about the journey behind our drone displays, and what’s next for this cutting-edge blend of art and technology.
Take a look at some of the highlights here.

The Future of Drone Shows
The theme for UK House this year was three simple words: ‘The Future; Now.’ Here at Celestial, we are always looking forward, innovating and consistently improving our offering to craft the most awe-inspiring drone displays.
Here are some ways we’re anticipating the future of drone shows:
Integrated With Reality
The future of drone shows promises even more immersive, interactive, and dynamic offerings, with each technological advancement allowing for larger displays and more complex artwork to be projected onto the night sky.
There is even the potential to integrate drone shows with virtual and augmented reality, which would allow audiences to interact with the show in an entirely new dimension. This could involve drones mimicking the actions of a dancer on a stage in real-time, or recreating art drawn on stage, allowing for even more visually stunning, intricate shows.
Bigger, Better, Brighter
As technology continues to develop, drones are only going to get smarter and more powerful. Currently, our drone swarms fly for ten minutes at a time, and for anything longer, we launch multiple swarms of drones. However, as we progress, we’re only going to be flying longer shows with smaller, more powerful drones that can fly closer together to create a level of detail never seen before.
This could lead to larger shows as well, with more drones in the sky at once for bigger shows. We currently use on average between 400 to 600 drones for our shows and comply with CAA regulations for how many drones can fly at once, but as drone regulations and safety improve, look to increase this number.
