4 Ways to Watch Our Iconic Drone Light Shows

25th August, 2022

Drone shows are an amazing experience. After all, there’s nothing quite like seeing hundreds of carefully choreographed drones light up the sky in perfect harmony.

But at Celestial, we go beyond just live shows to give our audiences the full drone experience.

In this article, we’ll break down the different ways of how to watch our drone displays, including:

  • Live drone show events
  • Drone display films
  • Live stream drone shows
  • Test flight displays

Live drone show events

Live drone shows are likely what comes to mind when you think of a drone show – and for good reason – they’re truly unforgettable experiences.

But live drone shows are not a one-size fits all affair.

At Celestial, every one of our live shows is unique and incorporates different aspects to ensure that every audience has the best possible experience.

We collaborate with and feature various world-class talent, including artists, composers, poets and activists, to bring each of our light shows to life.

Not only do we work closely with world-renowned creatives, we also champion local talent to give back to the communities where our shows take place.

To create unforgettable live show experiences, our live drone displays also use music soundtracks and narration, with the option for ground lighting and some of the biggest projection screens on earth!

Our live drone displays make the perfect addition to any big outdoor event, including:

  • New Year displays
  • Festivals
  • Bonfire night
  • Fourth of July
  • Sport events
  • Religious and cultural celebrations
  • And more

To see the painstaking work that goes into perfecting our live drone performances, check out our documentary that includes lots of behind-the-scenes sneak peeks from our show, Sky Song, at the Adelaide Fringe festival:

And if you haven’t seen a live drone show yet, we highly recommend coming to experience the wow factor firsthand.

Live streamed drone displays

Not everyone can make it to our live drone show events. Luckily, we’ve found a solution that allows a global audience to immerse themselves in our live shows, wherever they are: live streaming.

We first introduced this technique at our Coventry drone show, which was created to mark the end of their year as the UK’s city of culture.

Thousands of people attended this show, but we wanted a way to ensure it would reach far and wide in Coventry and beyond.

To achieve this, we filmed the display with multiple cameras and live-streamed online using 5G technology.

This enabled a truly global audience to enjoy the display and watch it live from different viewing angles, making our drone displays more accessible than ever before.

Drone display films

Alongside our live drone shows, we create some incredible films that showcase the wow factor of our displays – and even go beyond some of the things we’re able to achieve in a live show setting.

Through the medium of film, we’re able to incorporate cutting-edge techniques such as animation to enhance the films that we create.

This doesn’t mean the displays you see in our films are animated – these are very real. If you want to see our animation in action, check out our Greenpeace display here:

We’re also able to fly our drones at our base and then superimpose them into locations that would otherwise be impossible or too challenging to fly in.

By collaborating with incredible composers, actors, musicians and other creatives in our films, including Peter Gabriel, Sigur Rós, Angélique Kidjo, David Tennant, Jackie Kay and many more, we transport audiences to different places and times while sending an important message through the medium of our films.

Our drone display films include:

  • Activist campaigns
  • New Year celebrations
  • Recordings of live performances
  • And behind the scenes insights

Test flight displays

Last but not least, we have our test flights at our base.

This is one of the unbeatable ways our clients and collaborators see elements of a display take shape before the final show has been completed.

This amazing behind-the-scenes experience is guaranteed to blow you away – after all, there’s nothing quite like watching our fleet of drones take off just meters in front of you.

If you’re lucky enough to attend one of our test flights, listen out for the discernable ‘buzz’ that our drones make as they fly in formation – it’s an unforgettable sound and experience.

Conclusion

There are lots of different ways that you can watch our drone shows, each with its own unique benefits.

Whether you’re looking for an immersive live experience, want to watch from the comfort of your own home or are interested in seeing how our displays come together, we hope this has given you a taste of what’s to come.
